Staff Scientists do not receive independent resources, although they often work independently and have sophisticated skills and knowledge essential to the work of the Laboratory. Experience managing shared scientific resources and supervising laboratory staff are also required as are excellent written and oral (English) communication skills.
The individual will also be intensively involved in oversight of CMS activities for the newly launched Longitudinal Rat Resource project.
The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining microsurgery and behavioral equipment and for optimizing behavioral tests to meet the needs of aging research. Experience with data analysis using R, MATLAB, Python, or an equivalent software, is required.

Experience with ANY-Maze, Ethovision, and MED-PC script writing are required and experience with DigiGait software is highly desired. The incumbent must be experienced in rat and mouse stereotaxic surgery (viral infusion and optical fiber implantation) behavioral tests evaluating locomotor, cognitive, emotional, and sensory function commonly used behavioral equipment software and statistical analysis software. The incumbent will work with all NIA/IRP Laboratories requiring assistance in developing and conducting rodent neurosurgery, behavioral phenotyping, and in vivo neurobiological assessment of aged rodents. The work performed is directed towards understanding pathological and abnormal states of the aging body and brain.
